Cromwell Market

Enjoy farm-fresh, regional, and seasonal produce from the Cromwell markets.

There are two words that come to mind when thinking of the Cromwell Farmers’ and Craft Market. The first is quality, the market brings together an array of farm-fresh, regional, and seasonal produce for all to enjoy, with some unique products only found in Central Otago. The second word is community, with a friendly network of local stall holders gathering each week to share their goods and are keen to educate all visitors about what they have to offer. The market is the perfect place to experience a slice of Cromwell culture.

Located within the town’s Heritage Precinct, the market offers a selection of the best food and craft Central Otago has to offer, this includes fresh produce, artisan crafts, takeaway fare and top-quality coffee! Starting from Labour Day weekend, the market runs every Sunday through to Easter, from 9am – 1pm, so there’s plenty of time to get hold of the goods. Whether its items for your weekly shop, crafts for a special occasion or a delicious treat, there’s something for everyone who visits.

Amongst the stalls you’ll find fresh stone-fruit from Cromwell’s renowned orchards, you’ll also be able to sample and buy local cheeses , fresh sausages, organic beer, honey, olive oils, teas , herbs and salads, jams and preserves and fresh baking too. And whilst exploring what’s on offer and trying the goods, have a conversation with the local cheesemaker or butcher, find out about their products, their background, and the process behind their creation.

People Outside a Flea Market

The offering at the market goes beyond the edible variety, you’ll also be able to get your hands on locally produced linen, wool crafts, pottery, soap, fresh flowers and much more. With Christmas creeping up around the corner too, its the perfect place to pick up gifts and all those bits and bobs you need for the festive season.

Each Sunday there’s at least 30 stall holders offering their goods for sale and as the season progresses and produce is harvested, the offering expands. This includes Cromwell’s delicious cherries which will be ready for all to try in December. Adding to the already lively atmosphere of the market, there’s always live entertainment from 10am to 12pm, showcasing the talents of local artists for all visitors to enjoy.

The market is located amongst the original and recreated buildings from the gold mining era which sets the market apart from others, adding a unique experience to market-goers as they are able to explore historical sites and the artisan businesses situated along the shore of Lake Dunstan. This combination makes for the perfect Sunday outing.
